Slimming Foods - Oatmeal

My first slimming food for the week is oatmeal.  Now before you start groaning, listen to this.....

To begin, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  One thing you should never do is skip breakfast.  Oatmeal is loaded with fiber, is an excellent source of protein and will help you stay full for longer.

Don't like it plain?  Try adding fresh fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, artificial sweetener, a tablespoon of natural peanut butter, or a tablespoon of honey to your oatmeal.  Try eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast for one week and take note of how you feel.  I find that I feel less hungry by the time mid-morning rolls around.

Extra bonus?  It helps to lower cholesterol!

  1. I love oatmeal! I usually eat it at least once a week, with artificial sweetener, and artificial butter spray. Other days I eat whole grain cereal with fat free milk, and fruit.

  2. I love oatmeal! But with a teaspoon of brown sugar... ;o) And I confirm that when I have it for breakfast I don't need a mid-morning snack! (for me mid-morning is noon, I have lunch at 3pm, Spanish schedule, it's my main meal of the day)

Only problem is it takes a while to prepare and I don't always have time... But I'll try and do it for a week and see how that goes! Might as well make the most of it now, as soon as it starts getting hot the last thing I crave is a hot breakfast! :p

    1. I actually prefer Cream of Wheat but can't get it in Spain... I'm just glad I can find oatmeal here!

    2. Cris: I always eat mine with a teaspoon of brown sugar too! Tony actually makes his oatmeal in the microwave. And its not the instant oatmeal either. He just takes the regular, old fashioned oatmeal, adds water, throws it in the microwave for a few minutes and he's done. I prefer to make mine on the stove. But try it his way - he swears by it.

    3. Hi Cris. Whatever name you give to the meal, or whatever culture you live in, the concept of breakfast is literally to 'break' your 'fast.' Eating your first meal of the day at noon only works if you also get up at noon. :) Their are few reasons to eat when you get up, but the main one that when you wake your blood nutrient levels are low from 'fasting' overnight, and making your body move means 'running on empty.' This puts your body into starvation mode, in which your body burns fat less efficiently and stores it more aggressively when you consume food.
