Week 17 Progress

YOU people inspire ME!  Thank you for taking the time to come by and give me updates or to let me know you're a new follower who was somehow inspired by my story.  That's why I'm here and why I write this blog.  If I can reach out to just one person each week, I can maybe help 52 people each year.  You can do the same by telling people about your journey and your progress.  Keep up the good work.

Did anyone try Quinoa after reading last week post?   What else are you eating that is different from what you used to eat?  Lori tells me that she has enlisted her boyfriend and room mates in her journey and they are exercising together and supporting and pushing each other.  What an excellent idea!  Do you have anyone to help you?  Get a workout buddy or a meal buddy.  Sometimes there is strength in numbers.  Go for it!

Week 16 Progress

How is everyone doing?  Are you gearing up for summer?  I hope everyone is stepping up their fruit and vegetable intake and putting in some exercise effort.

Here's some snack food ideas:
  • air popped popcorn
  • fresh sliced fruit and veggies
  • nuts
  • oatmeal
Have you tried Quinoa?  It's delicious and a nice change from rice or pasta.  Check out this recipe for Quinoa fried rice.  Let me know what you think of it.

A frequent question, especially at 16 weeks into the year, is "How do I keep my motivation?"  That's an excellent question and the answer is different for each person.  But in the end, YOU are your motivation.  YOU have to reach down inside yourself and find the strength to eat healthy, work out and get fit.  Because if YOU don't do it for yourself, then who else will?  YOU are worth it.  YOU matter.  YOU can make a difference.  Y.O.U.

Go out there and be the best YOU that YOU can be.

Weekly Progress Week 15

How is everyone doing?

We have several people who are consistently weighing in each week with positive results.  If you haven't left a message yet, please feel free to do so.  We want to hear how you're doing.

Start filling your plate with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.  An easy way to get both into your diet is to buy a juicer and make yourself fresh juice each day.  Did you know that you can easily combine both fruits and vegetables for a healthy and nutritious drink?  Here's a tip - add an apple or 2 to your juice and it sweetens the drink.  This is a great idea for people who don't really care for vegetables.  You can put fresh vegetables in the drink and you'll never taste it if you add apple as well.

Juicing vegetables and fruits is easy.  Wash them REALLY well.  Place them in your juicer and turn on the button.  Out comes a stream of fresh juice.  My mom pours hers over a glass of ice.  No matter how you do it - its good for you and it's an excellent way to up your fruit and vegetable intake.

Week 14 Progress

We have 2 consistent weigh ins each week - Lori and Prozium.  Prozium has declared that diet and exercise is now a part of his life style and I think that's an excellent way to look at it.  The hardest thing to do is change our eating patterns and once you can accept those changes for the better, you are on the road to a healthier way of eating.  Looking at an exercise routine as part of your day is also a good thing.  And Lori tried Rock Climbing last week.  Way to go!!

Lori also asked about increasing upper body strength.  There are lots of different ways to go about this - both with or without the use of weights.  I suggest using Google and looking for some ideas that appeal to you.  One of the sites that I personally like is the Livestrong site.  They have some upper body strength building ideas here.

So, who is working out with weights?  What type of exercises do you do?  Personally, I prefer to work out with weights and I work different parts of my body on different days of the week.  I also try to get in some cardio on the treadmill every day.  Is anyone doing cardio?

Week 13 Progress

How did everyone navigate their holiday eating?  Did you do anything special, did you keep your self in check, work out extra, eat too much?  Let's hear how everyone did this week.

Special shout out to Lori who has been trying out different forms of exercise.  Last week she was swimming, which is excellent.  I hear next week she's trying something new.  What is everyone else doing to keep it interesting?

This past week my mom hit the hiking trails again.  That's one of her favorite forms of exercise.  Fresh air and a brisk walk will do wonders.  She started slow and did just a few miles and will increase it weekly. Does anyone else like to walk?  Remember, you can walk around the block, in a park, around a track, at the mall, in the woods or on a treadmill.  Just go out and do it!
